The Green and White Scrimmage is in the rearview and it’s time for football against guys in other jerseys.  The Jets will do just that on Thursday, when they host the Indianapolis Colts at MetLife Stadium.  Some speculated, but the team made it official Tuesday that Geno Smith would make the start against the Colts.  On his maturation process, Geno says “I felt it coming at the end of last season.  It’s still a work in progress.  I’m still fine-tuning a lot of things… still need to focus on the mental aspect of it and all the small things will make me better.”

Head Coach Rex Ryan estimated the starters would go for the first quarter, and we could see backup QB Mike Vick in for a series with the ones.  Matt Simms, then Tahj Boyd should follow.  According to almost every report, Boyd hasn’t looked good in training camp.  He’ll have the fourth quarter against the Colts to silence doubters and inch closer to the number three QB position currently held by Simms.

Calvin Pryor may see the field after being cleared by the doctors to fully participate in practice earlier in the week, but Rex seems hesitant to throw the rookie out there as he recovers from the concussion he suffered on the first day of contact drills. “I was debating: Hey do we throw him in there? But at the end of the day… let’s just take the cautious approach,” said the always outspoken coach of the Jets.

Pryor’s concussion and a few hamstrings aside, it’s been an injury-light training camp thus far in Cortland.  2014 fourth-round selection Shaq Evans suffered a “severe” shoulder injury Tuesday that “could” land him on IR, said Ryan.  “His shoulder looks pretty bad,” Rex admitted.  Eric Decker (hamstring), Bilal Powell (hamstring), Jeremy Kerley (illness) are all expected to play Thursday.
