Darrelle Revis, a private plane ride and physical later, is now a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers!  It will take some time to get used to seeing number twenty-four patrolling the secondary in another uniform, but the dollars he demanded in an extension made this outcome a forgone conclusion!  The New York Jets part ways with arguably the best player in franchise history, while acquiring some of the draft picks they need to put this team back together again!

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers traded their first-round pick in 2013 (13th overall) and a conditional pick in 2014 for the right to sign the former Jets cornerback to a six-year and $96 million dollar contract (not a penny guaranteed however!).  As long as Revis remains on the roster, the conditional fourth-rounder will become a third-round pick in 2014.  For the Jets, they get compensation for a player they could not come to terms with, and the Buccaneers get one of the best corners to play the game!

Where do the Jets go from here… to the 2013 NFL Draft with an extra pick in their pocket!  At picks nine and thirteen, the Jets can bring in top prospects to help this team immediately.  Maybe they package some picks and move up, if they’ve targeted that one player this year that can turn things around.  They could move back and collect draft picks like some of the better franchises in the league seem to do.  However they choose to spend their chips, let’s hope they spend wisely… or they DO lose Revis for nothing!

If fans of the Green and White are feeling a bit nostalgic, not to worry, Darrelle Revis and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers come to MetLife Stadium in Week 1.  Well played NFL… well played!
