The Green & White Show Volume XVIII
In this week’s edition of the Green & White Show with Joseph Haas & Jinx Grand, your hosts go camping with the New York Jets! We discuss the early days of training camp, including the absences of first-round draft pick Dee Milliner (unsigned), Santonio Holmes (foot injury) & Michael Goodsen (personal reasons). The Jets aren’t giving details on Goodsen’s “excused” absence, but I speculate on WHY Michael Goodsen isn’t with the rest of his teammates. Am I way off, or could he be going through a substance-abuse rehabilitation program? We give our takes on the QB competition as it heats up in camp, as well as how good both Sanchez and Smith have looked so far. Who do you think wins the battle coming out of camp? Who do you have starting Week 1?
In What Jets Said, we hear from a very confident Geno Smith! He sounds like a man on a mission to win the starting job! We also hear from HC Rex Ryan, and how he feels about what he’s seen from his new QB. GM John Idzik tells us it will be a “collective” that decides who the next starter for the New York Jets will be. Your hosts give their thoughts on the comments by all three. Do you agree with the GM getting involved in what is traditionally a coach’s decision? Should the front office have a say in who plays on the field?
In Rumors, Roster & The Rest, we continue our discussion of Santonio Holmes, who has been slow to return from his foot injury which sidelined him the majority of 2012. Will this foot injury keep Holmes out in 2013? When asked, Holmes couldn’t be certain when he’d be returning to the starting lineup. With the most explosive receiver on the roster watching practice, we discuss those who will play in his stead… specifically Clyde Gates. Hacking the NYJ for us is our player-expert Nolan Hack (@NolanHack). This week, we discuss Clyde Gates and the impact he can have this season. Nolan gives us a player-profile on the speedy Gates, and how a strong-armed thrower like Geno Smith can utilize that speed downfield. Can Gates tighten up his route running and make an impact this season? We tackle that question and more… in this week’s edition of Hackin’ the NYJ.
Lauren Beasley (@LBeasley313) joins us for The Rest Report, where she updates us on the other teams in the AFC East. This week, we start with the Buffalo Bills and the contract of Jarius Byrd, who has yet to report to training camp. With the injury to Jets DB Aaron Berry on the first day of camp, we ask whether players in contract disputes should report to camp or not. We travel to New England next, and discuss the poor start to training camp by Tim Tebow, and the different positions he could lineup at during camp. We don’t let Lauren get away without getting into the Miami Dolphins, and their shuffling offensive line. If the Dolphins plan to run a high-octane offense, they will need to sure-up that situation at guard! Today’s extra point question is a tasty topic the three of us enjoy… all in The Rest Report with Lauren Beasley.
In the Great Debate, we give our takes on the upcoming season, and how far we believe this group of Jets can go! Who should start, who should finish, and how the Jets may finish are all discussed as we dissect a few games on the schedule. The Jets start with two games in four days and no BYE until Week 10. The early part of the schedule is brutal, highlighted by games against the Steelers, Saints, Falcons and two versus New England … we discuss that and more on this week’s edition of the Green And White Show with Joseph Haas and Jinx Grand!
