In this week’s edition of the Green & White Show with Joseph Haas & Jinx Grand, your hosts get it started really, really early and bring you that Sunday football feel on another Saturday morning! We get the party started breaking down the team’s 19-6 loss to the formerly winless Pittsburgh Steelers. Two Geno Smith INTs and a missed connection to an open Stephen Hill sealed their fate. I give my take on Geno’s INT in the endzone, and how similar it was to another ball thrown in that direction that was intercepted. Am I wrong, let me know! Big Ben doesn’t miss his opportunity for six points when he hit Emmanuel Sanders for a 55-yard TD. The Jets lose Mike Goodson for the year with MCL & ACL tears in his knee. HC Rex Ryan understands the loss Goodson will be for the offense remarking, “It’s tough…, this guy’s a gamebreaker… we were excited about him.” The Jets also lost Clyde Gates to a shoulder injury. Both Gates and Goodson were placed on IR this week. Kellen Winslow Jr. missed the game, serving the 4-game suspension for violation of the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy. The Jets added WR/KR Josh Cribbs and WR Greg Salas to supplement the offense.
It’s Patriots Week!! Rex has asked the crowd to BRING IT this week, and come to MetLife in their GREEN and get pumped for an entertaining home-team performance. The Patriots come into MetLife after their unreal comeback against the New Orleans Saints, where Tom Brady drives his team down the field and tosses a last-second TD to Kenbrell Thompkins. He holds onto the football, and gets some love from his future Hall of Fame QB. We give our keys to a Gang Green victory, tell us if you agree! Both teams come in with injuries to critical players. We list the injured, and discuss what both teams can do to take advantage of each other’s weaknesses. One player will most-likely make his 2013 debut for the Patriots… Rob Gronkowski. Could the Jets do what the Pats did to the Saints, and put their best cover-corner on the enormous TE. Don’t be surprised if you see Antonio Cromartie, bad hip and all, covering Gronk downfield.
In What Jets Said, Rex Ryan talks about the five in a row the Jets have lost to the Patriots, and how he’s looking for that to change this week. It’s hard to consider the Jets defense an elite defense if they’re not causing turnovers. Rex agrees that “that’s what’s keeping us from that next step.” Rex wasn’t convinced Rob Gronkowski would miss the game, so much so, he had “1 and 1-A” plans in case the Patriots TE makes his debut at MetLife. Zach Sudfeld played the part of Gronkowski on the scout team this week. We commend players like David Harris who have been other-worldly this season. Damon Harrison, Quinton Coples, Mo Wilkerson & Sheldon Richardson have been vital to the performance of this stingy defense. We close the segment remembering Oail Andrew “Bum” Phillips, who passed away Friday at the age of 90.
In Rumors, Roster & The Rest, we get into whether or not Gronkowski will actually suit up this week. He’s been cleared by Dr. James Andrews for the first time this season, which leads us to believe we’ll see the game-changing TE. This week, we Hack the NYJ by examining strengths and weakness of this Jets team. We also get into possible gameplans the team could utilize against a Patriots defense that will be missing Vince Wilfork, Tommy Kelly, Jerod Mayo and Aqib Talib. We give more keys to victory… in this week’s edition of Hackin’ the NYJ.
Lauren Beasley (@LBeasley313) joins us for this week’s edition of The Rest Report, where she updates us on the other teams in the AFC East. The AFC East plays itself this week; Bills will play at Miami as the Jets host the Patriots. We take a look at Thad Lewis’s first start, a 27-24 OT loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Lauren gives her take on the performance of the practice-squad QB turned starter due to the knee injury to EJ Manuel. We talk about the Miami Dolphins coming off their bye, and if they can still challenge the Patriots for the division title. We get back into the topic of the day, the New England Patriots invasion of MetLife Stadium and the possible debut of Rob Gronkowski. Lauren gives us her keys to a Jets victory, as all three of us agree the Jets have a chance to win this football. You get all that and more… in this week’s edition of The Rest Report with Lauren Beasley.
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Congratulations to Jinx Grand, as he’ll be interviewing young Jets fans at MetLife Stadium for the New York Jets!! Look for him on the jumbotron!!
In the Great Debate, we start with a look at this week’s Thursday Night game. The Seattle Seahawks go into Arizona and take down the Cardinals 34-22. We discuss the intense line of scrimmage play, and the outstanding ability of Russell Wilson. We line Wilson up against the other great young QBs in the NFL, and discuss how he measures up. We dissect one pass by Palmer which shows his limits, and the same pass by Russell Wilson that proves the sky’s the limit for him!
We throw JG In The Box for our NHL update on the locals and teams around the league. The New Rangers and the New Jersey Devils haven’t racked up the points, while teams like the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks are on fire. JG takes a look at how the new divisions are shaping up in the early going of the NHL season.
Next up, we hear it straight from Carmelo Anthony himself... “I want to be a free agent.” We react to his comments, and give our take on Melo’s decision. This topic gives us a chance to get into the brewing Knicks/Nets rivalry. We can’t go too far without getting into the NLCS & ALCS. The Los Angeles Dodgers fall to the St. Louis Cardinals, while the Boston Red Sox have two games at home to try and finish off the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers have other plans, as Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer will start Game 6 & Game 7 and attempt to extend their season. We close the Great Debate with Jim Irsay’s curious comments which have set the world on fire this past week. Denver Broncos HC John Fox fires back, as well as former GM Bill Polian.
